Field-based experiences

(1) a minimum of 30 clock-hours of field-based experience. Up to 15 clock-hours of this field-based experience may be provided by use of electronic transmission or other video or technology-based method.

§228.35 (e) (2) Preparation Program Coursework and/or Training
(B) Internship. An internship must be for a minimum of one full school year for the classroom teacher assignment or assignments that match the certification category or categories for which the candidate is prepared by the EPP.
(I) Clinical teaching must meet one of the following requirements:
(-a-) a minimum of 14 weeks (no fewer than 70 full days), with a full day being 100% of the school day; or
(-b-) a minimum of 28 weeks (no fewer than 140 half days), with a half day being 50% of the school day.
Late Hire
According to the Texas Administrative Codes (TAC) a "Late Hire" is required to:
§228.2 (25) Definitions
Late hire -- An individual who has not been accepted into an educator preparation program before the 45th day before the first day of instruction and who is hired for a teaching assignment by a school after the 45th day before the first day of instruction or after the school's academic year has begun.
§228.35 (d) Preparation Program Coursework and/or Training
Late hire provisions. A late hire for a school district teaching position may begin employment under an intern or probationary certificate before completing the pre-internship requirements of subsection (b) of this section, but shall complete these requirements within 90 school days of assignment.
In order to qualify and be labeled a "Late Hire":
1. You must be officially enrolled in an alternative certification program (at least 45 days before 1st day that a teacher being to instruction students)
AND
2. You must be hired as the teacher of record (Intern Certificate, which requires passing the appropriate exams)
In order to qualify for an “Intern Certificate” , state law also required
You have passed the appropriate exam(s) (1 - 4 exams) (depending on the certificate)
Therefore, ANY and ALL alternative certification programs CAN NOT determine if you are a "Late Hire" until you are officially enrolled and you passed the appropriate exams.
