Step 1: Admission Criteria

Determine that you have met the minimum admission criteria.

1. A Baccalaureate Degree or higher from a university/college accredited in the United States or the equivalent thereof ; and

2. Minimum Grade Point Average (G.P.A.) of 2.5 on a 4-point scale; and

3. Acceptable scores on the Texas Higher Education Assessment (THEA), TASP, or Accuplacer; and

4. Appropriate evidence of negative TB Test (no later than one year old unless evidenced with x-rays, then it may be two years old)

Note: In accordance with TAC §227.10(c), EIT® cannot admit any individual who has completed another educator preparation program in the same certification field or has been employed for three or more years in a public school under a temporary, probationary, and/or emergency certificate.

Note: In accordance with TAC §227.10(e), individuals seeking entry into the EIT® Program and who have graduated from an accredited university/college from a country other than the United States are required to submit an approved evaluation of their transcript(s) in order to be considered. Additional requirements and details are provided by program directors at the EIT® Program Office.

Note: Pre-Admission Content Tests (PACT): Significant changes to Texas Administrative Code (TAC) §227.10 (a)(3)(C) were approved by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) on October 10, 2008. The new rule, which went into effect on December 14, 2008, allows degreed individuals who have not been enrolled in an Educator Preparation Program (EPP) to take Pre-Admission Content Tests (PACT) to demonstrate content proficiency for possible admission into an EPP.Taking PACT does not ensure admittance into a program.EPPs may have additional admission requirements.
